“We need silence, just as much as we need air, just as much as plants need light. If our minds are crowded with words and thoughts there is no space for us.”

What I'm reading now...
The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer
This beautifully written book by the author of Braiding Sweetgrass is a delight that begins with the artistry adorned on its cover. She writes about abundance and reciprocity at a time when those concepts seem so far from our own front doors. How do we see the world around us? Can we still see abundance when faced with the overwhelming number of ways information comes at us these days? What is the connection between us and the natural world around us? Why is it important?
When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi
Paul Kalanithi shares the story of his life in this poignant and courageous memoir. As many people do, he had a plan for his life, yet that plan would not come to fruition as he imagined. Doesn’t this happen to everyone in some way? When something happens that feels as if the ground underneath you shifted or worse. He shows us one possibility of facing such an experience. His raw vulnerability and grief alongside his enduring strength and resilience is inspiring. A reminder that every breath is precious. Maybe more than we understand?

What I'm recommending to clients right now...
No Bad Parts by Richard C. Schwartz, Ph.D. This easy to read and understand book outlines the complex inner workings of life experience. The terminology may be strange at first, because it is new, however, it can allow some distance from which to observe your own individual reactions and responses and therefore create space in which to offer change.
